Hyaluronic Acid. What are the benefits?

One of the big buzzwords in skincare ingredients is Hyaluronic acid or HA, also often called Sodium Hyaluronate. HA is naturally found in the human skin and is responsible for securing moisture through its unique ability to bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water, this creates a plump and hydrated skin.  Not only is HA vital for skin hydration, it also regulates up to 130 genes responsible for the regulation of skin elasticity and the extra-cellular matrix (the tissue that provides structural support to cells).

As we age, skin moisture drops significantly due to internal and external factors. One of the most damaging external elements to our skin is UV light which degrades the supporting collagen fibres in the dermis, the elastin, and the natural moisturising factors of the skin. This downturn in skin function corresponds to the signs of ageing and lack of skin resiliency.

Luckily HA can be applied topically and is capable of permeating through the superficial skin layers into the deeper dermis where it can boost hydration and elasticity. Applying HA topically has scientifically shown to increase moisture, improve skin smoothness, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, aid tissue repair and protection. Additionally, HA applied topically forms a protective barrier on the skin which further locks in moisture and provides a youthful skin appearance.

c2skin has been incorporating HA in their formulations since their inception, and HA can be found in COMPLEX8  moisturising serum.
